I am having the same issue - Running Microsoft Windows 11 Pro 10.0.26120 on a Dell XPS 9315.
Windows 11 - Start menu search not functional, typing selects items instead of searching, clicking the search bar closes the start menu

When trying to find a file using the start menu search function, any keyboard inputs will instead select specific apps (eg. Typing M will swap between Mail, Microsoft Store, MyASUS, etc.). Left-clicking on the "Search for apps, settings, and documents" textbox at the top will immediately close the start menu.

Windows as an OS is becoming really tedious for average users to troubleshoot, and I can't imagine it's much more pleasant for power users either.

Ian Tyson 0 Reputation points2025-06-09T08:05:23.9733333+00:00 I have the same issue after I upgraded to [Version 10.0.26120.4230] when I press start the start menu appears when I use the keyboard or OSK it selects applications rather than typing the search bar at the top. usually I press start then type notepad for example and it writes Notepad in the search bar at the top. Now I press notepad and as I type letters it selects apps on the pinned part of the start bar for example 'e' selects edge and 'p' paint
