    Hi Linda Guo,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

    • Using azure file sync:

'Azure file sync' enables you to centralize your organization’s file shares in Azure Files while maintaining the flexibility, performance, and compatibility of a Windows file server. By transforming your Windows Server into a quick cache of your Azure file share using protocols like SMB, NFS, and FTPS, you can optimize storage costs with cloud tiering. Multi-site access and sync ensure that changes made in one office automatically sync to servers in other offices. For business continuity and disaster recovery, Azure File Sync leverages Azure Files’ redundancy options. Also pls note that while Azure File Sync doesn’t directly back up OneDrive data, it’s valuable for file share synchronization.

    • Using azure functions with storage account:
      • Create a new storage account where the backups will be stored
      • Configure OneDrive API Access by registering application in AAD to access the OneDrive
      • Provide all the necessary API permissions to Microsoft graph and files and make sure admin consent is granted for these permissions
      • Setup azure function for backup automation using script
      • Authenticate the registered app and retrieve access tokens
      • Use Microsoft Graph API to iterate through onedrive files and download them first. Now upload the downloaded files to azure storage account
      • Scheduled the azure function and use azure monitor to track the execution and you can also setup alerts.

Make sure you Implement lifecycle policies in azure storage to archive or delete old backups if needed to reduce the cost.
