We have a SharePoint private group and some users that were removed as members still show up as members on the site under Group Membership but not when you go to Site Permissions or even Advanced permissions settings. I checked all groups and they are not listed and they are not there. Also there is no associated MS Teams Channel setup for the site either.

    Hi @Wilson, John ,

Thank you for posting in this community.

After deleting, it still shows that the user is in the member group, is it the group that comes with the site when it is created(site owner /site members /site visitors)?

Additionally, you can check if a user still exists in a group in the Sharepoint Admin Center.

    User's image

If you still don't see the user here, a combination of checks done in between can determine that it's a sync delay issue. I've been in the same situation as you before, be patient and wait a few days to get back to normal, don't worry.

You can check user details in this path:

Site information -> View all site settings -> Site Permissions Check Permission

    User's image

    User's image

If this is the case, simply remove from the groups that appear in the result in the image above.

If there are any misunderstandings, please let me know

    Best regards,
