What are the supported MFA methods for External ID in External Tenants?

According to the documentation, it appears that only an email one-time password (OTP) is supported. However, we found that the SMS OTP also works. Could we obtain confirmation regarding this?

Additionally, is there an estimated timeline for supporting the Microsoft Authenticator App as a multi-factor authentication (MFA) method?

    @Canming Jiang

    Thank you for posting this in Microsoft Q&A.

    As Pawan Nrisimha mentioned above, SMS OTP is still in Private preview and it is not available for all the tenants in working condition. This feature might be working in few opted tenants and in few tenants, it might not be working.

    About the authenticator app for external ID users, currently we are not sure if this feature will be lined up for future. We do not have any particular timeline for the same.

    However, you can submit your feedback in Azure feedback portal asking for this feature.

    Microsoft changed B2C no longer being available for purchase and now there is no way to implement TOTP MFA. People should vote this feature request to get authenticator MFA available. https://feedback.azure.com/d365community/idea/7f30956c-8dc4-ef11-95f5-0022484c7a61
