The update that begins with 'The new microsoft edge...' will update older versions of edge it seems. So there is no more need for the 'stable version' updates.
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
Hi,
About a month or so ago I looked at the doco for the new Edge Chromium with an eye to deploying it in our organisation. At that stage the doco said that the initial deployment had to be via msi through Config Manager but that version upgrades would come via WSUS (in the product, Microsoft Edge). At that time I noticed that version upgrades for 86, 87 etc did indeed appear in WSUS.
That seems to have all changed - for other reasons we had to rebuild our WSUS server and the version upgrades no longer appear but we are now getting updates that say 'The new microsoft edge...' which appear to install the new one from WSUS over the old one!!!
So they gone from > MSI install, WSUS version upgrade to
WSUS install, no upgrade?????
Anyone seen this?
Thanks
David Z

Hi David Z,
Thank you for posting on this forum.
We could not deploy the Microsoft Edge by WSUS. But we could deploy the Microsoft Edge by SCCM or Intune according to the below link:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/apps/deploy-use/deploy-edge?toc=https%3A%2F%2Flearn.microsoft.com%2FDeployEdge%2Ftoc.json&bc=https%3A%2F%2Flearn.microsoft.com%2FDeployEdge%2Fbreadcrumb%2Ftoc.json
In order to help to research further, please help to provide the screenshot in your environment. I will try my best to research further.
Thanks for your time and have a nice day.

This is our software update group in Config Manager. Read the KB article.
Hi David,
Thanks for your response.
According to this link, once we’ve installed Microsoft Edge, it will update independently on a roughly six-week cadence.
Also, I will research further and consult the Microsoft Edge engineer in detail. If there is any feedback, I will inform you first.
Thanks for your time and have a nice day.

Rita

The link you mentioned is quite old. What is now being deployed around the new edge seems to have changed.
