Fresh install of Windows 10 20H2 on a Z370 mobo. Vendor has ME updates. Apparently they do not fully apply to the chipset. Mobo is less than 5 years old. Before Windows update would handle the chipset update. This latest update / install it doesnt and in Device Manager I get Other Devices / unknown PCI memory Controller and SM Bus Controller. Had to manually download latest Z370 chipset from Intel. Hot mess.

Microsoft appears to be providing these Intel chipset updates

Microsoft can only provide what the developer gives them. Hard to know the timing of when they're provided to microsoft and when they turn around and send them out via windows update.

I'd check with the vendor about this. The burden of providing updates for the hardware is on the vendor / manufacturer to do.

Unfortunately Microsoft was providing the chipset update. It is unclear how/when this has stopped but Intel updated the Z370 chipset in May of 2020. I only hit this wall because I wanted to go to 20H2. When I went to 1903 Microsoft provided all the necessary chipset files. Now it does not? Yes, at the end of the day the Vendor should be responsible. However Microsoft appears to be providing these Intel chipset updates. How and when is a mystery to me. That is the answer I am looking for. I posted the info to provide people with the knowledge that going to Intel and downloading the drivers may work for them.
