@MS Techie , Thanks for posting this good question. On a standard App Service, access to SMB ports is restricted by the Sandbox . Restricted Outgoing Ports: Regardless of address, applications cannot connect to anywhere using ports (445/137/ 138/139). In other words, even if connecting to a non-private IP address or the address of a virtual network, connections to aforementioned ports are not permitted. Also, as mentioned in the same document that you’re referring to VNet integration doesn’t support: Mounting a drive and NetBIOS. If your requirement fits, you could use (for files copy) FTP/ Kudu console . As a side note to highlight, Azure Storage in App Service is in preview for App Service on Linux, Web App for Containers and Windows. It's not supported for production scenarios. You could access via either the SDK or the REST API . Having mentioned above, kindly note that I have also shared your feedback on this with our product engineering team.

i know hybrid connection allows connection to SQL Server in on-premises.

Does hybrid connection allow connecting to on-premises file-share ? if yes , is it the only way to connect to on-premises file-share from Azure App Service ?

@MS Techie , No, Hybrid connection will not help here.

As of today, due to the restrictions (mentioned above - sandbox and VNet integration), connecting to on-premise file share is not supported.
Alternatively, if your requirement fits, you can use Azure File Share and access using REST.

Is there any news on this one? We’re willing to run Azure Functions in any flavor (Windows, Linux, isolated, containerized etc.) to be able to connect to an on-premises file share.
