Keyboard volume control doesn't update with the default windows sound device

I have a volume control wheel on my keyboard. It controls the volume just fine for the default sound device at boot. Whenever I switch the default sound device between a USB headset and external speakers, the keyboard volume control stays with the original device. I see this as a bug but given that this has been around for a while and doesn't seem to have gotten noticed by Microsoft: Does anyone know any workarounds that don't involve using third party software to add custom keybinds for volume control?

I have exactly the same issue. I have speakers connected to a USB audio interface and a USB headset. The volume knob on my keyboard works only for the headset as this is the default device. When I change the current playback device to the interface the knob is not working for it. This is frustrating. It used to work correctly in the past and failed after I upgraded to 2004 build. Could you address this, please?

    Hi,

Temporarily disable your antivirus and check if your volume control is working properly or not.
If that didn’t work out for you go for the following fixes:

    1. Press the Windows key and type “Device Manager” in the search box.
    2. Then, you have to click on the “Device Manager“.
    3. Now, right-click on the driver you are using as your current sound system and click on “Update driver“. Click on the option “Search automatically for updated driver software“.
      Reboot your computer.
Check if updating the sound driver has solved your problem or not. Go for the next fix if your problem continues.
