Rename a bot handline of an Azure Bot

I need to rename a Teams bot that is represented by a bot service in Azure.
Apparently the bot handle of the bot service is used as sender when the Teams bot is sending a message to a user.
When I rename the bot I would also like to rename this sender name.
However according to the portal the bot handle of the bot service can't be changed once created.
Is there any way around that? Any workaround I could choose?

I can not simply setup a new bot service with a new name as the old bot is already deployed in tenants and is in active use.

You can change the bot name displayed in Teams environment, and you need to update it in the following occurrences:

The bot name displayed as a title in the chat window is managed within your app manifest (previously called Teams app manifest) and you can update the bot name in your app manifest.

The bot name that's displayed in your Teams chat list and in the chat window with each message are managed within Microsoft Azure portal. For custom uploaded apps, you can update the bot name in the Bot profile page in Azure portal.

Ok, I see.
Changing the displayname works for fresh installations of the bot.
For existing installations in tenants the old name persists. Is there anything the admins of these tenants can do to update the bot name to the latest one?

That is what I have done.
It works fine if the bot was not previously installed in a tenant. However it doesn't have an effect on tenants where the bot was already installed. I still see the old name being used there.
At least for custom installed bots where a new version is installed. I can't try it currently for bots distributed via the app store.

This works for custom uploaded apps.
FYI, it takes nearly 30 minutes for changes to bot settings to be reflected in all regions. Changes to icons may take up to 24 hours.

Ok, I have tested this now and it doesn't seem that bots that have been once installed in a tenant can change the name. This is what I tried:

Install a bot into a tenant

Let the bot send a message to the user. Bot name shows as sender

Remove the bot again from the tenant (team scope, personal scope, my apps, entra enterprise apps)

Change the name in the Azure Bot service to a new name. Also change it in app registration and manifest

Wait > 24h

Install the bot again in the same tenant

Tab names are correct and app description is correct with the new name

Let bot send a message to the user

Sender name is still the OLD name. It didn't get updated. The only time where the old name is still contained is the bot handle of the azure bot (which can't be updated).

If I install the bot in a fresh tenant it behaves as expected. So it seems to me like an update is not working.

Apologies for delay. Somehow, we missed the reply. There is a bug raised for this issue. We will respond in this thread once we hear any update from engineering team. Thanks!

@Prasad-MSFT Can you share some more insights into the status of the bug?
I have reported many bugs over the past years and there are quite some which got never fixed.
This is a really important one for us so it would be great to know the likelihood of it getting fixed soon.
