I have a Laptop with Win 11 home, and I purchased the pro version and did the upgrade. Now, I'm looking to transfer the Pro version to a new PC and revert the laptop back to Win 11 Home.

My question is: I want to upgrade another PC from Win 11 to Pro. Is it possible to revert the laptop to Win Home so that I can use the Win Pro version license on the new PC I purchased that only has Win 11 Home pre-installed?

FYI, the Win 11 pro I purchased for $99 is linked to my account and the laptop I installed. If I unlink this laptop from my account, would the computer reset to the original Win 11 Home?

Thanks

Once you've upgraded to Pro, the system doesn't retain the Home edition files.

You can transfer a retail license of Windows 11 Pro to a new PC. On your current laptop:

i]You'll need to perform a clean install of Windows 11 Home. This will require a Windows 11 Home product key, or a digital license linked to your Microsoft account. Before proceeding back up all your data before proceeding.

    For the Pro license:

    For Home:

    • Your laptop will likely remain on Windows 11 Pro, but it will become unactivated.
    • You will need a Windows 11 Home product key to revert the laptop to Home. If you don't have a key, you might need to perform a clean installation of Windows 11 Home.

    Hi Kael,

    Thanks for your post.

You can deactivate Windows 11/10 by removing the product key with Command Prompt. Check how to uninstall Windows product key with CMD below.

You can click Start, type cmd, right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

Type the command wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey and press Enter to find your product key. You can take down the product key if you want to use it to activate another computer.

Next, you can type the command: slmgr.vbs /upk. Press Enter to execute the command to uninstall the Windows 10/11 product key. You will see a message saying “Uninstalled product key successfully”.

Then you type the command slmgr /cpky command and press Enter. It will eliminate the Windows 10/11 product key from the Windows registry.

how to uninstall/deactivate Windows product key or license

Note: If the Windows 11/10/8/7 OS comes preinstalled with the OEM computer, then the license is non-transferable. However, if you buy a retail license for Windows from Microsoft Store, you can transfer the license to another computer. You can follow the guide above to uninstall the product key and use the key on another computer.

    Best Regards,

    Ian Xue
