How to fix Function keys not working properly

My function keys have been working just fine until a few days ago when they just stopped working. I've tried doing Fn+Esc to toggle the Fn Lock, trying to fix it from the BIOS (there was no setting for action keys/ function keys), and updating drivers. Nothing has worked. Today I found out that they DO work, but ONLY as Microsoft Edge shortcut keys (I EXCLUSIVELY use Google Chrome so I don't know how it would have changed the function keys). However, when I tried to go to Microsoft Edge settings to disable it from using my function keys, the only one I could disable was F12. I want to go back to having my function keys change the brightness and volume etc. like a normal computer, not have it open up Microsoft Edge tabs or have anything related to Microsoft Edge. Please help me! I have Windows 11, AMD software, and an AULA F99 keyboard.

    Hello,

Restart the “HidServ” Service: The Human Interface Device Service (HidServ) is essential for the operation of function keys. Restarting this service can sometimes resolve issues. To do this, open Task Manager, go to the “Services” tab, find “HidServ”, right-click on it, and select "Restart".

Run SFC and DISM Scans: System File Checker (SFC) and Deployment Image Service and Management Tool (DISM) can repair Windows system files which might be causing the issue.

Resetting the browser settings might help:

    Open Microsoft Edge.

    Go to Settings > Appearance.

Under the Address bar and search box section, make sure "Show home button" is turned off.

Scroll down to the Advanced section and click on it.

Under Reset settings, click "Restore settings to their original defaults".

Confirm the action and restart Edge.

    Best Regards,

    Hania Lian

I had a situation where an edge app was not recognizing media keys. The fix required 2 steps.

    • enable the media keys flag in edge ( edge://flags/#hardware-media-key-handling)
    • restart the hid service as described above.

    Immediately fixed the problem.
