    Hi @Sanjay Bhakuni - admin

We have a team's meeting chat and I want to allow only some users to type on the chat and rest I want to only able to read the chat. How I can do that.

Managing chat permissions and notifications within Microsoft Teams meetings can be a bit tricky with its current feature set. Here's how you might approach your requirements:

    1. Restricting Chat Permissions:
    • As mentioned previously, you can manage participant roles by designating some users as presenters (who can interact freely) and others as attendees (who have limited permissions). Presenters can type in the chat, and attendees will have limited capabilities.
    • However, attendees can still type in the chat unless you disable the chat for them. To completely disable chat for certain attendees, you can toggle the chat function off for them. Here's how to manage meeting roles:
    • During the meeting, go to the meeting controls, and select More actions (...) > Manage permissions.
    • In the menu that opens under "Who can present?", select “Only me” or specify selected presenters.
    • Save these settings.
    1. Managing Notifications:
    • To prevent all users from receiving desktop notifications for the meeting chat, you can advise them to change their notification settings. You can instruct them to mute notifications for the meeting chat manually. Here’s how users can disable chat notifications:
    • Open the Teams app.
    • Go to the chat or channel where they want to adjust notifications.
    • Click on the ellipsis (...) next to the chat or channel name.
    • Select Channel notifications (for channels) or Mute (for chats).
    • Configure notification preferences to Off.

Unfortunately, there's no central control to enforce this for all users automatically. Each user will need to follow these steps to manage their notifications individually.
