MS Word downloaded in Edge lost VBA template reference

Hi,

In previous IE or Edge in IE mode, when we download a Word document with a local VBA template reference, it always can load it successfully after download. That VBA template file is always there at a regular location in C drive on my local machine.

Now we try to do the same thing in pure Edge, Word file is always downloaded into user's 'Downloads' folder first but sometimes it can't load the same template file after download. When it stopped working, it would switch to "Normal" template instead.

I changed "AutomaticallyUpdateStyles" setting to false in Word before download and it looks like working now.

Just want to confirm this "AutomaticallyUpdateStyles" change does affect VBA template reference in Word downloaded from Edge.

Thanks.

    Hi @Zhu, Ligong

Does "AutomaticallyUpdateStyles" mean the option on "Templates and Add-ins" as following image shown or the one on "Modify Style"?

    User's image

Enabling this option updates styles in the current document to match the styles in the template you are currently attaching to. If you don't enable it, Word will ignore the styles in the template (Normal.dotm or VBA template).

When it stopped working, it would switch to "Normal" template instead.

Please go to Developer tab > Document Template, under "Document template", "Templates" tab, check the template file.

    • Under the sense of "Automatically update document styles" enabled, if the document can't find your VBA template, it may update using the styles in the Normal template.
    • If it is not the VBA template, you may browse VBA template via clicking "Attach" button, and ensure "Automatically update document styles" is ticked, then click "OK" to have a check.
