Why are some messages missing from one user's chat history with another user?

I am comparing two users' chat history of a conversation, but one user's history is missing several messages that the other user can see. Neither user deleted the messages. How is it possible that one user's chat history is missing these messages?

Can the user view the full chat history on the Teams Web client?

If the issue only occurs on the Teams desktop client, try clearing the Teams cache and logging in again:
