Will Office 365 redeploy to all devices again if I create a new Office 365 App on Intune?

Hi,

We have Office 365 app deployed via Intune to an Autopilot group. The Autopilot group is a dynamic group that covers all new and existing laptops in our environment. This Office 365 App is 64 bit and set to use the semi-annual channel. The package is a few months old. Now, I created a new Office 365 App on Intune. It is 64 bit, using the latest version and set to use the Current/Monthly channel.

If I delete the old Office 365 App and assign this new package to the Autopilot group, will it uninstall and reinstall to the laptops? Thank you.

@DoBongSoon ,For your question, I would like to say it will not uninstall the apps from these laptops when we assign the new package to the device group. To uninstall the old app, we need to add the group into the uninstall assignment of the old office 365 app.

    Hope it can help.

    Hi,

First of all it looks like you are setting up Microsoft 365 cloud apps and not MSI. If that is the case then you can only have one app Microsoft 365 app deployment per machine. Secondly, when you create a new cloud app and deploy that to existing cloud app installations, then they will get updated to the version deployed. So in your case semi-annual installs will change to current channel and the corresponding version. If you want to keep the channel setups different, then control it by the means of groups.

    Hi,

If you delete the existing setup and deploy a new one, the configuration of the new one will come into effect. If the channel in both the setup is same then only new updates will apply (if there are any). There won’t be any re-installs as such. Just re-configuration to install and apply new updates and features.

Thank you. But will it re-deploy because it is a newer build? Or no, because the MSI is the same even if it is a few months old and had Semi Annual Channel selected?

Another solution I am thinking of is to create another group. Add all existing Autopilot devices to it and make that an exclude to this new app. The difference is that the new group will include laptops that already ran Autopilot. While the original Autopilot group contains both upcoming and existing laptops.

Do I still need to do this or no? Thank you!
