Application gateway with private link

Question

Hello,

what does private link do if I deploy Application gateway V2 with public and private ip (because private deplyoment is not yet GA)? Appgw has already private ip which I can access because all vnets are peered trough hub and application behind it would be 100% for internal use.

So what is purpose of private link in AppGW or am I missing something here? Are puprose of if that if vnet are not peered so in my case there would be no benefits to use private link with appgw?

I understand that you would like to know the difference between Azure Private Link and Private IP Frontend.

As per your observation, yes, the main difference is:

• Private IP is accessible from all resources that are directly connected to the VNET
• In Private Link, there is no such requirement that the VNETs should be peered/connected.
  • And these VNETs can be in a different tenant or region altogether
  • The MS Backbone will take care of the routing

So, in your case,

Unless and until you are exposing your service (App Gw) to external clients, you can continue to leverage Private IP frontend.
