Hi,

I need your advice on a Hyper-v configuration.
We have a dedicated hyper-v 2019 server at the datacenter with 2 nics. and currently only one nic has public IP4 and is connected to the internet and other nic is not connected to any switch
There is no nat device in front of the hyper-v host, we want that the VMs have internet access and also can communicate to the hyper-v host.

we can not use an external switch becuse the VMs are in the range of 10.0.10.0/24 and there is no gateway for the VMs for internet access.

is the nat VM switch the only possible configuration?

Another option is to use a dedicated virtual machine for this purpose.

    Hi,

Yes, if all VM should have 10.0.10.0/24 IP, the only way to allow VM to access the Internet is to create a NAT switch.

The method mentioned by Dave that to use a VM to act as a NAT server also needs the VM to have an external IP address.

    Thanks for your time!
    Best Regards,
    Anne

    Thanks for your reply,

Can we use the Microsoft routing and remote access services to allow communication between 2 vlans?
    Thanks

Yes, you can setup a dedicated virtual machine for this purpose.. An example here.

Thank you al for your reply,

First we had only a single Hyper-v host with single nic connected to internet. For the VM to have internet access I created a internal natswitch and use this switch for VMs to access internet or access services on the VMs from internet and everything works perfectly.
But now we have a second physical server that we would like to allow our VMs on Hyper-v host to access this new host.

The new host and hypwer-v host are connected together with a VRack switch and for connecting these to Physical server together we had to create a vlan ( by useing server 2019 nic teaming) and now these 2 host can ping each other but as expected VMs cannot access the new hosts.

Can we configure a new VMswitch on hyper-v host by usinig the Vlan adapter that we see in network shareing centrum and also create a new VM on the hyper-v host with 2 nics and connect one nic to the natswitch and connect other nic to the newly created switch and then install the Routing services on the new VM to allow connection between the VMs and new physical host? is this will help us to join the new server to a domain that is running on the VMs?

    Thanks
