IIS (WEB) Server issue due to unzipping files directly into /inetpub/wwwroot folder?

Hi there, if anybody has faced a similar issue like this.

One of my developer copied a zipped folder to a webserver's download folder and then he unzipped the files and folder to \inetpub\wwwroot folder. After few mins all the web application running from that server went down and threw 500 error.

There was no any evidence in event viewer, I could not find, probably I did not knew what to look for.

As it was a production server I had to restore it back from a snapshot and everything was running and then again I did the same thing unzipping a zipped file into the same \inetoub\wwwroot folder and same thing happened.

Again I restored and this time I unzipped the zipped file in another location and only copied and pasted the files and folder to the \inetpub\wwwroot and this time it had no issue.

I just wanted to verify if that unzipping the files directly into the inetpub\wwwroot folder caused the issue.

Has anyone has any idea on it or faced similar problem with inetpub folder?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Suman
