Hello,

I am interested in using a cloud distribution point in Configuration Manager. Can you provide an overview of how a cloud distribution point works and its benefits? Are there any specific requirements or configurations needed to set up and utilize a cloud distribution point? Additionally, how does a cloud distribution point integrate with the existing on-premises infrastructure in Configuration Manager?

Any insights or resources on using a cloud distribution point in Configuration Manager would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

As Rahul mentioned, the standalone Cloud Distribution Point (CDP) was deprecated starting in Configuration Manager version 2107. Instead, the Cloud Management Gateway (CMG) now includes the functionality to serve content, effectively replacing the standalone CDP.

    Cloud Management Gateway (CMG)

The CMG provides a secure way to manage Configuration Manager clients over the internet. It integrates with your on-premises infrastructure and can serve as a cloud distribution point for content.

    Integration with On-Premises Infrastructure

The CMG integrates with your existing Configuration Manager setup by:

    • Content Distribution: The site distributes content to Azure, which stores it in Azure blob storage.
    • Management Point: The management point provides clients with the content location.
    • Client Communication: Uses HTTPS for secure communication between clients and the CMG.

For more detailed information, you can refer to the official Microsoft documentation on planning for CMG and data flow for CMG.

If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask.
