Could you please tell me if you are logged in as a "personal account" or a "school account" or a "work account"?
If you are logged in as a "school account" or a "work account", you cannot update your name in Microsoft 365 yourself. It is recommended that you contact your organization's administrator to add or update the user's profile information in the Microsoft Entra Admin Center to complete this operation, as documented in this article.

When looking for your Microsoft 365 admin to change your name, reset your password, delete an account, or do other tasks, here's some pointers to who you should contact.
If you're at school, you can contact your technical support or helpdesk team. If you work at an organization, you can contact your internal help desk.
