Unable to install SQL Server 2022 after uninstalling it. Error: 2147467259

I was having some problems with an older version of SQL Server and SSMS so I decided to just uninstall both of them and try a fresh installation of both. But I get this error 2147467259 message when I try to install SQL Server. Here is one of the files being generated from that error: Summary_Tots_20240730_180406.txt

Here is another one that might be relevant: Detail.txt

Hello Eitham，

According to your setup log, we got these error message ‘The system cannot find the path specified’, it seems that the account run sql server setup file do not have the permission to these folders. Please right click the SQL server setup file , then run the SQL server setup file as administrator.

According to the summary log, you already installed six SQL server instances in your environment.

Please uninstall them completely before install a new one as you mentioned that you want to uninstall them. You can uninstall them from Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features.

This does indeed look like an error which occurs after multiple installation attempts, possibly with some random cleanup in between.

In addition to Cathy's post, have a look at https://www.sql-easy.com/learn/how-to-uninstall-sql-server/. Some people I've tried to help, have reported success after they had followed the instructions in that article. (I have not tried it myself, since I have not had reason to.)

Thank you for the quick response, I tried deleting all the instances but I get stuck with this one:

I get 2 errors when I try to remove the instance and it generates a different summary and detail .txt files: Detail.txt Summary_Tots_20240731_124458.txt

Seems like your machine is quite messed up. Have you worked with virtual machines? It may be easier to create a VM, and install SQL Server on the VM.

Hello @ Eitham Roda,

Please delete SQL server files and clean the registry. Restart your computer to ensures all changes take effect. Shared this blog How to Completely Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server for refence.

Delete SQL Server Files:

Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files.

Delete the Microsoft SQL Server folder.

Clean the Registry :

Open the Registry Editor (type regedit in the Start menu search and press Enter).

Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server and delete this key.

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server and delete this key.
