Ghost process causing APPCRASH report in Event Viewer

Hi,

this is a very strange behaviour that's making me crazy.

I have multiple instances of a program (VoIP application) that are running on my server. The version of the corresponding exe file is 5.7.14.

Now, if I take a look at the Event Viewer, I see a lot of APPCRASH reports regarding old application versions: 5.7.3, 5.7.5, 5.7.7,... This is making me mad, since the ONLY application version that is running is 5.7.14. I clean up the system, I restarted Windows Server 2019, and even when I shutdown all the instances of the application (no process running anymore, I check that in the task manager), I still get those APPCRASH reports.

Since I'm not an expert, I ask you all for some advice, 'cause I don't know what I have to do anymore...

Thank you very much for any help.
Davide

    Hello @Davide Calde ,

    Thank you for posting here.

To better understanding your question, please confirm the following information:

    1.What is VoIP application?
2.Have you installed the lower version of this VoIP application?
3.Or maybe you have installed the lower version of this VoIP application 5.7.3, then you update from 5.7.3 to 5.7.5, then to 5.7.7, now to 5.7.14?

If you can find VoIP application support engineer to see if the registration information of the old version about this VoIP application is still there (such as in somewhere of registry) after the version update.

    Best Regards,
    Daisy Zhou

    Hi,

Thank you very much for your help!

    The application is Luci Studio:

    http://luci.eu/products/luci-studio/

Yes, that"s exactly what I did. I installed the lower version and then, as an update came out, the others without uninstalling the previous ones, I just installed it over the previous one.

But just to better understand: is that a real crash? Because strangely the app seems to work well even if there are those crashes...

Thank you very much for an answer

    Best regards,
    Davide

    Hello @Davide Calde ,

Would you please tell us if you can run this APP scuuessfully without any issue?

If so, I can see it is information instead of warning or error from the screenshot you provided, and you can install a newest version 5.7.14 on one new test machine to see if there is such information, if so, we can ignore it.

    Best Regards,
    Daisy Zhou

    Hi DaisyZhou-MSF,

thank you very much for your support. The problem fixed by itself. I have no idea what happened. Since the 8th of January I have no more such warnings. No idea why, maybe a Windows Update I suppose.

You can close this ticket, although the technical question still remains: why did I get messages from old program versions since there were no other versions of the application running than the newest one?

Thank you very much for your support!
    Bye,
    Davide
