Background: I recently bought a new machine with Windows 11. I moved most of my files from my old Windows 10 machine, including many Excel files.

On my new machine, I paid for and installed Excel. Just Excel. I have no need for other MS Office products. There was no mention when I bought it that VBA would not be included.

But it wasn't. I have followed many directions in trying to add it. My spreadsheets are worthless without it. None of the directions work. They all end up with a 'Repair' option, but nothing else.

How can I get VBA? I'm even willing to pay for it.

To install Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) in Office 365, follow these steps:

Open the Office Installer:

Access your Control Panel and select “Programs and Features.”
Locate Microsoft Office in the list, select it, and click “Change.”

Modify the Installation:

In the Office installer, choose “Add or Remove Features.”
Find “Office Shared Features” and expand it.
Set “Visual Basic for Applications” to “Run from My Computer.”

Complete the Installation:

Click “Continue” and follow the prompts to finish the installation.

When I choose the option to modify the installation of Office 365, I only get 2 options:

quick repair or online repair, but it does not let me choose the optional parts of the office installation that includes: visual basic for application.

Is there any way to create a custom XML type installation file to force you to install: visual basic for aplication? I searched, but did not find, could you give me an example of how it would be, please?

Hi Marcelo Suarez,

To access the optional components, you should try running the Office installation setup again, rather than using the repair options. Here's how you can do it:

Go to the Control Panel and select "Programs and Features" (in Windows 10/11) or "Add or Remove Programs" (in older Windows versions).

Find Microsoft Office 365 in the list of installed programs and select it.

Click the "Change" button.

In the "Change your installation" window, select "Modify" instead of "Repair".

You should now see a list of optional components, including Visual Basic for Applications. Check the box next to VBA to include it in your installation.

If you don’t see the Add or Remove Features option and only see Quick Repair and Online Repair, you may need to use the Office Deployment Tool or re-install Office with customization options.

If you're still having trouble, you can try running the Office Online Repair tool or the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA) for further assistance.

I am also having this issue, there is no "Modify" option after selecting "Change". The only options presented are the ones Marcello Suarez posted on 8/2. I completely uninstalled and reinstalled Office 365 and there was no way that I saw to select any other features.

I hope you did all the steps mentioned above. To begin with, let us examine the list that is located below as it may be relevant.

Organizational or Group Policy Limitations: You may not be able to alter your Office installation because it has been administratively controlled (for example, Group Policy). Should that be the case, you will need to contact your IT personnel and administrator for assistance.

Availability of VBA: If you work on a Mac and have Office 365, you are able to use VBA, however, the installation method may differ slightly.

First, check that you're using an Office version that includes VBA. Most Office 365 versions come with it, but if you're using a web-based or a more limited version, VBA might not be available.
