HI -

I understand that in SharePoint online your can enable teh "Document ID" servcie and that existing documents will assigned a Document ID by a background service. How would this impact or is it recommended as a best practice, to turn on the Service during off-hours as to not impact users? Or, as it is running in the background, would there be miinimal impact? I have over 100,000 existing documents and want to ensure that the site is still resable while its runnig. Also, any negatives to turning this service on? Will a Document ID still be assigned if Users use "Sync" and drag and drop files?

thanks in advance for your help with this.

Lisa

    @Lisa Hein
    Since you have lots of files, in order to not affect other users use SharePoint, I suggest you open Document ID Service during off-hours. Turning on Document ID Service will not have negative impacts. Document ID still be assigned when users use "Sync" and drag and drop files.

    You can enable it at any time. DocIDs are added as the item is (re)crawled. Performance isn't your concern, but rather Microsoft's.
