Authenticator on iOS/iPadOS shows notification badges without reason

Since some day my authentication on iOS/iPadOS shows a notification badges and I can’t find a reason for that. There are no notifications inside the app. I already deleted the app and reinstalled, but the badge is there again. Of course I can switch off badge notifications in iOS-Settings but this only would be a workaround and no solution. Does anybody have an idea?

Same thing for me. Shows 1 on iOS 18 but was happening on iOS 17 as well. Have checked every screen as far as I know and still won’t go away.

Same issue here, latest iOS 18 public beta 5. No notification in the app whatsoever, the badge count is set to 1 though.

Same issue here. Hoping Microsoft releases an app update to fix this sooner rather than later.

same issue since ios18 public beta was released. turned notifications off and the badge disappears. turn notifications on and the badge reappears. nothing in the app seems to have a "notification". so frustrating.

6 Aug 2024 and the issue is still there.

Until today, I hadn’t used the app, and it had no badge. Today I used it and have the stuck notification badge just like (apparently) everybody else. (IOS 18 Beta release)

Just disable the badge notifications for the app in Settings. Nothing to be worked up about (especially on an iOS beta), it’s not like that badge count has any value for Authenticator anyways.

I just fixed it!

I think that the problem is from an old attempt to log in to an account that was not succesfull (happened to me a few days ago, because I selected the wrong number).

I tried updating the app and iOS to 18.0, but it did not work.

What I did was to attempt log in into my Microsoft Account from a computer, so I needed to approve the log in from my iPhone. Then, after this, I found another notification in the notification center, to approve another attempt (I think that this one refers to the one that I failed to approve). Then, I touched that notification and a message of it being expired appeared, accepted it and the red badge dissapeared.

I was experiencing the same issue through all the beta updates. However the latest update to iOS 18.0 seems to have cleared my red notification button on the app. I hope others experience this same resolution as I am glad that thing is gone!

Yes. The most recent iOS update or Microsoft Authenticator version seems to have resolved this issue for me for the time being. They both happened near the same time for me so I'm not sure what it was that solved it.

Ahh, I didn't notice the update to the app. I just installed 18.0 and saw the indicator was gone and chalked it up to that, but perhaps it was the app update. Regardless, I'm glad it's fixed!

I got the issue after the ios18 update. Didnt have it before. And yes i already updated ALL my apps on the phone. But here’s what somehow fixed it on my end. I was trying to log in to my microsoft account for school and the authenticator pop up and i did my normal process of typing in the number to authenticate. After i did that, i was curious, so I checked to see if that 1 notification is still there. It was gone. I think i just had to trigger a real notification to get rid of it.

I have updated to iOS 18 yesterday and notification didn't go away. iPhone 15, iOS 18, Authenticator version 6.8.14.
I turned off Badges in notifications for the app.

Was still happening for me with all the latest updates, but clears if you log in to the ms account used for ms Authenticator backup, using the web browser and approve the account. I used the edge browser on the iPhone to login.

Same here. Went to settings on my iPhone and disabled notifications for Authenticator. No luck.

Sync Account - turn off.

Exit the app

Go back to Sync Account and turn it back on.
