How can I stop unwanted tabs from opening--have done the recommended steps, except reloading Edge, and I still get them.

steps taken:

  1. Change Edge Startup Settings:
    • Open Edge and click on the three dots (menu) in the top right corner.
    • Go to Settings > On startup.
    • Select Open a specific page or pages and set your preferred startup page.
  2. Clear Edge Browsing Data:
    • Click on the three dots (menu) and go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services.
    • Under Clear browsing data, click Choose what to clear.
    • Select Browsing history, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files, then click Clear now.
  3. Run an Anti-Malware Scan:
    • Sometimes, malware can cause browsers to behave unexpectedly. Run a scan with your preferred anti-malware software to identify and remove any potential threats.
  4. Repair or Reset Edge:
    • Go to Settings > Reset settings.
    • Click on Restore settings to their default values. This will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs. It will also disable all extensions and clear temporary data like cookies. Your favorites, history, and saved passwords will not be cleared.
  5. Prevent Unwanted Redirects:

Can you be more specific about the popups? Are you getting these on certain sites? If so have you enabled popups for that site? You can go to your settings and see what sites you have enabled popups for. Note that some sites don't work properly without it. Can you share the site(s) that you're having that issue with?
