Creating a Dynamic Distribution list based on users email domain

I have tried creating a Dynamic Distribution list using the following PS script

New-DynamicDistributionGroup -Name "O365_DDG_All-Test" -RecipientFilter "(RecipientTypeDetails -eq 'UserMailbox') -and (WindowsLiveID -like '@test.com')"

But it just is not working, I would like to create a Dynamic Distribution list based on the users email domain - any tips as to what I may be doing wrong.

Hej dej,

First of all - good one that you use WindowsLiveID, this is the only parameter that works, see https://practical365.com/dynamic-distribution-lists-email-address/, however you use it with wrong operator as -like won't work. I was using this successfully with "-eq" over the last year or so but... it stopped working suddenly and found your post while trying to resolve my issue... Basically what worked for me was something like:

Set-DynamicDistributionGroup "DGD-PortalNewsFeed" -RecipientFilter "((Company -eq 'Company1') -or (Company -eq 'Company2') -or ((RecipientTypeDetailsValue -eq 'GuestMailUser') -and "(WindowsLiveID -eq '*company3.com#EXT#@domain.onmicrosoft.com')))

However a user reported to me that it is not working for them, and they cannot see guests in the DL anymore, checked and apparently MS changed something as when I put the whole email address it works, but as soon as I put value with asterisk, like '*company3.com#EXT#@domain.onmicrosoft.com' it stops. It was working on 1000% so as of now I am struggling with the same

Same problem here. I think the filtering is broken. Even existing DDL are effected.

Unfortunately I changed the Rules to the below and its still not working

New-DynamicDistributionGroup -Name "O365_DDG_All-Users" -RecipientFilter "(RecipientTypeDetails -eq 'UserMailbox') -and (WindowsLiveID -eq '*@test.co.uk')"

I'm still having this problem, without using the wrong oparator.

set-dynamicdistributiongroup -identity dummy@contoso.nl -RecipientFilter {(RecipientType -eq 'UserMailbox') -and (WindowsLiveID -eq '*@contoso.nl')}

As Pawel Jarosz said, please try to change the -like to -eq and use the wildcards to see if it works.

Also, it is recommended to consider the alternative approach in How to Create Dynamic Distribution Groups Using Email Addresses (practical365.com) since the uncertainty around using email properties in recipient filters.

It could be that there are some have changed about parameter WindowsLiveID. Please consider the alternative approach in How to Create Dynamic Distribution Groups Using Email Addresses (practical365.com).
