Why do I need to enter my Windows Hello PIN twice when creating new passkey?

Is it expected behavior that I need to enter my Windows Hello PIN twice when creating a new passkey? The passkey creation process was initiated by Chrome browser. The second dialog does not say somethin like "Please enter you PIN again" it just says the same ("checking that it's really you") like the first one.

AI says that it is but there is no clue in the referenced article which supports that claim 😅

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

When you create a new Passkey using the Chrome browser, you may be asked to enter your Windows Hello PIN twice for security reasons to ensure that the operation is performed by you. This two-factor verification is done to prevent unauthorized access and ensure that only you can create a Passkey.

Normally, entering your PIN twice when creating a Passkey is not part of the standard process, but in some cases, it may be an extra step for added security. Chrome browser may use this method to increase security when creating a Passkey.

Some users have the same question as you, you can try turning off the "Use Windows Hello when filling in passwords" option through the Chrome browser to see if it helps. I hope the information above is helpful.

    Best Regards,

Yes, it is expected behavior to enter your Windows Hello PIN twice when creating a new passkey. The first time you enter your PIN, it is used to verify your identity. The second time you enter your PIN, it is used to confirm that you want to create a new passkey. This is a security measure to prevent unauthorized access to your device. The second dialog that says "checking that it's really you" is just a confirmation message to let you know that the passkey creation process is still ongoing.
