Error installation SQL Server - error code 2147467259

When installing SQL server on my new Surface CoPilot laptop, I get an error during installation. In de logfiles I see error code 2147467259. When contacting Microsoft, I get no help what so ever! And this is a brand new laptop..

Log files are:

Summary.txt
Detail.txt

Does anybody know a solution? I know there are more issues reported with this error code, but I cannot find any solution.

The new Surface runs on ARM, which is not supported by SQL Server. But it should be possible to install SQL Server on Surface using emulation: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/arm/apps-on-arm-x86-emulation.

I don't have a Surface myself, but I've heard of people who have installed SQL Server this way.

When installing SQL server on my new Surface CoPilot laptop.

Unfortunately, as of now, Microsoft SQL Server does not support ARM architecture. This means you won't be able to install SQL Server directly on your device.

Please refer to Erland's answer, I checked other users in the community have the same issue as yours, his link helped them!

As for future compatibility, there hasn't been any official announcement from Microsoft regarding support for SQL Server on ARM64 processors.

Microsoft attaches great importance to user experience, you can submit your ideas and suggestions through the Feedback Hub, and the development team will regularly review submissions for ideas or fixes.

The first wave of Copilot+ PCs start shipping with Prism emulation on board on June 18, 2024.

I am returning the laptop as it was brand new.. To much trouble to get it working.

I am getting a dell with intel processor.

Well it does not work out of the box and I still do not know how to get it working. Also not with the provided link to 'How emulation works on Arm'.

So for people without technical skills it is too difficult.

You have my sympathy for returning the Surface in favour of a plain-vanilla laptop.

I can't comment on the complexity of installing/using Prism, since I don't have a Surface, and nor do I have any plans to get one.

One could argue that since SQL Server itself is quite technical, you would need those technical skills sooner or later. Then again, the skill sets are different, and just because I know SQL Server does not mean that I would be comfortable with Prism, if I actually had to use it.

And the same for you: It's SQL Server you have to learn, and there is not much value in itself to learn Prism.

By the way, before you try to install SQL Server on the new Dell, read this article. It covers a known issue where Windows 11 for certain disk drives report a disk sector size that SQL Server cannot cope with. So if your Dell would come with one of those disk models, you would run into problem.
