HTTPS working on LAN but not working from WAN

I'm running server 2022 standard core and a hypervisor. I have a new vm configured with IIS using port 443. I have a valid ssl cert in place and everything works on our lan but when trying to access from WAN there is no response from the server like the port is closed. Our second vm which we want to retire is configured the same and when we point to it everything works on the LAN and WAN. Has anyone experienced something like this?
