What would happen if we sent the wrong product in for warranty.

Question

I have an xbox elite controller that I sent in for warranty but I did not check if the serial number was correct. I was just wondering what would happen if I sent in my Xbox Elite Series 2 controller with a different serial number than what I claimed in the service order.
