authenticator app setup not working

my authenticator app doesnt allow me to set up properly cuz the code that appears is prompting me to type into my authenticator app which is not set up so how can i type the code there? when i change the option to show code on outlook mobile instead, no code appears there. pls help cuz i cannot login to outlook on any other device
