I am currently logged in and have full control of my computer. My operating system is windows 10. My windows password is due to expire soon. When I attempt to change my password Windows 10 does not recognize the password I've just used to log in. What can I do to fix this?

    Open Command Prompt as Admin.

Type "net user username newpassword" (replace "username" with your actual username and "newpassword" with your desired new password)

    Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your post. Based on my research, if you encountered the issue that PC isn't recognizing the new password you set for your Microsoft account. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:

    1. Check Internet Connection: Ensure that your PC is connected to the internet. Sometimes, if the PC isn't online, it won't be able to sync with the new password.
    2. Re-enter Password: Double-check that you're entering the new password correctly. It's easy to make a typo or forget if you've used special characters or capital letters.
    3. Use Old Password: Try logging in with your old password. In some cases, the PC might not have synced with the new password yet.
    4. Restart Your PC: Sometimes, simply restarting your computer can help sync the new password.
    5. Sync Your Account: Manually sync your Microsoft account. To do this, go to the settings in your account (on another device where you can access it) and find an option to sync or manage devices.
    6. Reset Password Again: If none of the above steps work, try resetting your password again, but this time, do it from a browser on your PC if possible.
    7. Access in Safe Mode: Boot your PC in Safe Mode and try to log in. This can sometimes bypass certain issues.
    8. Use a Local Account: If you're still unable to log in, you might want to consider switching to a local account temporarily. You can do this by restarting your PC, choosing the troubleshooting option, and then navigating to Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart. After your PC restarts, select option 4 or F4 to start your PC in Safe Mode. Then, go to Settings > Accounts and opt for a local account.

    Best Regards,
