I have exchanged several messages with Linn L on the community forum about extraneous errors. I eventually resolved the problem by changing the calc mode for the sub that caused Excel to go "Not Responding", without reporting exceptions, from manual to automatic. So it seems Excel goes "Not Responding" when code executes too quickly.

Could you please go to Excel, click File > Account, check the Office version name and version number?

Generally, enabling Automatic Workbook Calculation may cause "Not Responding" issue, but according to your thread title, Excel goes "Not Responding" under Manual Workbook Calculation, am I right?

I also want to confirm following questions:

Is there a lot of data in the Workbook?

Does this issue occur with all Excel workbooks, such as .xls, .xlsx files?

What are the main calculations in the workbook, such as formulas, VBA code or others? Please check if Excel no responds after click Refresh All or Refresh (These options are under Data tab)?

Dear JiaJing Hua,

Depends on what you mean by "a lot". The total size of the .xlsb file is 4 MB, including about 270 KB of VBA code. This issue occurs only with one sub in this app. Excel is Version 2407 (Build 17830.20138).Thanks

As there is VBA code in this .xlsb file, in my opinion, this question may be related to VBA code calculation.
