I have trouble installing Windows 10 Update version 2004 and 20H2 updates. They both gave me this 0x80004005 error.

I have tried the following fixes,

  • Run sfc /scannow.
  • Delete system32/SoftwareDistribution folder and force a redownload of update files.
  • Run Trouble Shooter in Windows Update.
  • Use the update tool, Windows10Upgrade9252.exe
  • Verified that my Win10 is correctly activated.

None of the above solves my problem.

What is my best bet to fix this issue?

    Hello

Error code 0x80004005 means E_Fail - Unspecified error.
Can you share your Update log files to analyze the failure?

Open the Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Windows\logs and then copy and paste the CBS folder to your desktop.
Then zip and upload it on wetransfer.com and share the link here please.

    Friendly greetings

What version are you upgrading from?
I had a lot of computers still on build 1607 and the solution turned out to be to upgrade to 1709 first and then to 20H2 og 21H1.
