How to make Azure SOA for my DNS

Since I can't transfer my domain to Azure, I want Azure DNS to be my SOA. I have attempted to enter the Azure DNS servers ns1-02.azure-dns.com, ns1-02.azure-dns.org, ns1-02.azure-dns.net, ns1-02.azure-dns.info to Ggdaddy, but when I try to register the azure servers, it fails.

Can you please elaborate your issue.

I see you are following the steps mentioned in Host your domain in Azure DNS.

May I ask what exactly is the error you are seeing?

I see your Registrar is GoDaddy

From their docs, see : Edit my domain nameservers

From here, you should be able to edit the name servers to Azure Provided ones (from the DNS Zone created in Azure)

thank you for your response. I was attempting to add my custom domain to Azure. and seems like there is already a txt record in the GoDaddy DNS pointing to Azure. I want to make Azure the SOA for my DNS records.

when I attempt to register the DNS servers I get an error from Godaddy.

"We can't save your changes because this nameserver isn't registered. Verify your entry for accuracy and check with your DNS provider that this nameserver is registered."

when I attempt to register the servers the system never registers the servers

ns1-02.azure-dns.com 168.63.129.16

ns1-02.azure-dns.net 168.63.129.16

May I ask why you have mentioned the IP "168.63.129.16" ?

If you select "I'll use my own nameservers", you should only have the option to specify the hostname

From digwebinterface, I can see "ns1-02.azure-dns.com" is resolving properly

Kindly check your process of adding the name servers once again

Hi Potte,

You will first need to create the DNS zone in Azure DNS and make sure you have all your records like in GoDaddy.

Once you create the Azure DNS zone it will show what Azure DNS servers are used. You can then go to Godaddy and enter those nameservers as the new nameservers for your domain.

You mention the ip address 168.63.129.16 this is the so called Azure Magic IP and cannot be used for this functionality as it as only reachable from within Azure.
