Bug report: MS Teams on Linux fails to upload files with special characters

Hello,
I'm using Microsoft Teams version 1.3.00.30857 (64 bits) on a fully updated Ubuntu 18.04.
Whenever I try to upload a file from my PC to Teams it fails if:

  • the file is inside a folder with special charecters in its name, such as "Relatório"
  • the filename has special charecters

Teams has the following behavior:

  • if I use drad and drop the file nothing happens
  • if I use the button to upload a file, it creates a file with zero bytes, but doesn't show any error message

Renaming the file or folder to remove any special character solves the problem, but I'd like to be able to use the original names.

If I use the web version of Teams everything works as expected.

    @Miguel Frade :

We have raised a bug to Teams Platform about sending files over teams in Linux. More of this seems to be Product Support query. Will get back to you once bug is resolved.

    Hi @Miguel Frade

    Same issue here!

I did the test in my environment and when upload the txt file named "Relatório", the error message will say it is empty file. However, it will upload normally when using Teams web client. To troubleshot this issue, I tried to change the language (English -> Portuguese) setting in Teams client but it didn't work.

To make sure if it is a known issue in Teams for Linux, i will discuss with our Teams engineers. If there is any useful information or solution, we will update in time.

    Same problem here.

I'm using Microsoft Teams snap in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

Should we change locale from pt-PT.UTF-8 to something else?

I'm experiencing the same problem on Fedora 33. This is a major bug and really should be resolved!

Is there anyone actively working on this? there was another forum where it was suggested to remove the ~/.config/Microsoft folder so it clears all the cache, but after trying the problem remains... (it was happening with a fresh install anyway)

Any timeline for an update on this?
