Can't log into onmicrosoft.com account because I can't access authenticator

Question

I can't access microsoft authenticator. it asks for the authenticator code, but nothing shows up on my phone. when I click If you can't use an app right now get a code a different way. it shows tells me Verify your identity Approve a request on my Microsoft Authenticator app or Use a verification code.  Neither of which I can do.  It' a personal account on iOS and desktop. How can I get authenticated another way??? I've tried this and it didn't work: Restore account credentials from Microsoft Authenticator

I had this happen in April. I was able to call Microsoft and have them open a ticket. When I got a response the person was able to remove the MFA from my onmicrosoft.com account and it worked. Fast forward, same problem. Microsoft no longer has a number you can call and get help or get a ticket created. Just this format. I started a discussion last week and got nowhere. This is so frustrating. Online boards suggest this is a common problem - no one has the answer - appears it must come from MS since they are the administration of the onmicrosoft.com site.
