We have checkin/checkout activated on our sharepoint site, and we use versioning to track history. We have guidelines on when minor and major versions should be used.

One of our staff has checked in a file as a major version when it should have been a minor version. Is there anyway I can change the version numbers back to the minor version changes without losing the changes he's made?

    Hi @Michael Blayney,

Thank you for posting in this community.

Unfortunately, when we generate a new major version number, we can't roll back to the previous major version number and continue numbering.

For example, if I accidentally check in a 1.1 file to 2.0, the subsequent versions can only be checked in as 2.1 or 3.0.

If you're concerned about the version number, you may want to roll back to the previous major version number and discard the new edit.

If the new content is more important, then you can continue with the numbering of the child version number starting with this new version number.

Unfortunately, we can't roll back to the previous major version while keeping the new content.
