New Dell laptops failed to image with MDT, but other models work well

Question

Some new Dell laptops failed to image with MDT this week, but other models work well. We got below error when it failed:

Failure 7712: Disk can not be formatted.

Possible cause: Removable drive, not an internal fixed drive.

Failed to run the action: Format and Partition Disk (UEFI).

But there was no removable drive or USB drive on the Dell laptops when the error occurred. What should I do to fix the issue?

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

1,Do you have the right Mass storage Driver for the new Dell laptops in the WinPE Image? You can add the storage driver to the WinPE image and update deployment share have a try.

2,Please try below Diskpart command when you boot into WinPE:

DISKPART

LIST DISK

SELECT DISK [number]

CLEAN

Then try again.

3,The new Dell laptop might ship from the factory with RAID enabled in BIOS so you have two options if you confirm that is the cause.

One, go into the BIOS and change from RAID to AHCI/NVMe.

Two, regenerate your WinPE image with the RAID drivers.
