GPT-4o and GPT-4o-mini availability in UK South (for data compliance)

The OpenAI model retirement page states that the GPT-4 models will start to be deprecated from October 2024 and fully retired in June 2025 whereas the GPT-35-turbo will be retired no earlier than Oct 2024 (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-services/openai/concepts/model-retirements). I'm using both these models in UK South as I have data compliance needs in this jurisdiction so I'd like to know when the GPT-4o and GPT-40-mini models will be available in this region so I can continue to use Azure OpenAI and don't have to consider alternative cloud providers in order to maintain compliance.

I've tried to look at various resources in the Azure help pages but can't find any specific information. Does anyone have any insights into this or should I start looking for alternatives?

Hello Ali Salaman,

Thanks for reaching out to us, I think there is some misunderstanding about the retire plan, the listed models are only retired the version it mentioned, not the whole model with any version will be retire.

There are a few gpt 4 models, like 1106-preview, is available in southUK and will be upgraded to another gpt-4 turbo 2024-04-09.

thanks for clarifying regarding upgrading gpt-4, @yutong. As for gpt-35-turbo, I believe my question still stands and the suggested replacement still appears to be gpt-4o-mini. Have I understood this correctly and if so, can you advise when it will be available to deploy in UK South?

Thanks for your follow up, GPT 4o has been released to UK South, it should be a good alternative in this region - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ai-services/openai/concepts/models#provisioned-deployment-model-availability

For GPT 4o mini, it is only available in two regions at this moment, the released date of UK South is unknown from product team.

The release will be step by step, please take a look on the what's new page.
