How do you make the chats list collapse?

Hello,
Here is a picture of my current Teams app at work. Previously, the left chat window would collapse and then expand when I wanted it to. Today I noticed it is now fixed. How do I go back to making it collapse? Is this not possible anymore? I use teams in conjunction with outlook on the same screen. about 1/3 of my screen is occupied by teams. With it not being able to collapse now, I can barely see my actual chats on the right half of this screenshot.
This must have recently changes, because I could collapse this before.
Is there a fix for this? Thanks in advance.

Do you mean you want to hide all of these contact list when you don't want to use it?
Have you tried to click the recent icon to collapse them?

This is extremely disruptive to my work, as I need most of the real estate on my monitor for other purposes. With the chat list permanently expanded, I have a very narrow view of the actual chat content.
Please post a fix ASAP.

I am not aware of any setting change but the contact list will just not collapse anymore. Given the recent dates on this could it have been changed in an update?

2024-08-28T17:55:47.0833333+00:00 @JimmyYang-MSFT clicking "recent" only colapses the contacts but it doesn't collapse the entire section. It still sits there taking up space which is the exact problem. If it had a divider between the contacts and the conversation then we could slide it I presume but there's nothing there to grab.

MB 0 Reputation points2026-01-07T08:48:29.9633333+00:00 While that works for hiding the individual chats and channels (which can be collapsed horizontally as you described), I believe Morgan's issue is the chats/channels list itself as an element. At least that's how I read the post and I have that issue as well. If I use Teams and Outlook on the same screen, Teams takes up 1/4 of the screen on the left. So it's very narrow and I'd like the chat itself to be as wide as possible. That could be achieved by collapsing the chats/channels list element so Teams only consists of the icon list (Activity, Chats, Apps) and the chat right next to it without the chats/channels list in between. Hope that makes sense.
