The user reports that recently when they're in a Teams meeting and sharing their screen the app seems to crash and restart upon ending the screen share. I witnessed this while doing a Teams meeting to test. Audio and video would be transmitting without issue but as soon as she ended a screen share from her end the connection with her on my end would drop immediately and attempt to reconnect but on her end the app would seem to work for about 5-10 seconds before closing out completely and restarting. The Teams app says she's on the latest version. I've tried the following but haven't had any luck.

  • I did a hard reboot of the computer
  • I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it
  • I manually cleared the cache in %appdata%/Microsoft/Teams
  • Reset the Teams app in Windows through the settings page
  • Repaired the Teams app through the settings page
  • Reinstalled Microsoft Edge Webview Runtime

User System and App Information:

Windows 10 version 21h2 LTSC

New Teams version 24193.1805.3040.8975

Client version 49/24071128825

    Hi @Andrew

According to your case description, you have made many attempts and have not been able to solve the problem. Here are some solutions that may help solve the problem that Teams crashes and restarts when ending screen sharing:

    • Update graphics driver: Graphics driver issues can cause crashes when screen sharing. Make sure your graphics driver is up to date. See Update drivers manually in Windows.
    • Check for conflicting applications: Some applications running in the background may conflict with Teams. Try closing unnecessary applications, especially those that may also use the screen sharing feature.
    • Adjust hardware acceleration settings: In Teams, try turning hardware acceleration off or on to see if it helps. You can find this option in Teams' settings.
    • Log file check: Check Teams' log files to see if there are any error messages that can help diagnose the problem. You can find the log file option in Teams' help menu. User's image
