Do I create a VM in the sandbox environment or separately in my own Azure account?

When trying to create a virtual machine, do I do that in the sandbox environment or do I do that in my own Azure account?

When in my sandbox environment, if I click Create A Resource > Create Virtual Machine, I am taken to a page where I then login to my actual Azure account.

    Hi Christina Wu,

We appreciate your engagement with us on the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on the query posted, we understand that you are experiencing difficulties creating a virtual machine resource as part of the exercise.

To complete the 'Exercise - Create an Azure resource', we do not need a personal Azure subscription. Instead, we will use a Sandbox environment, which provides a default subscription known as the "Concierge Subscription." Before proceeding to the Azure portal to create a virtual machine, as outlined in Task 1, we must activate the sandbox by clicking the "Activate sandbox" button. Once the sandbox is activated, we can proceed to Task 1: Create a virtual machine and follow the instructions provided in the module.

After logging into the Azure portal, if we have multiple subscriptions, we should ensure that we switch to the Microsoft Learn sandbox directory by using the settings icon located at the top right of the portal. Since we will be creating resources within the sandbox environment, we must be in the Learn sandbox directory. In the Azure portal, under the Resource group section, we should see an item name beginning with "learn...," which is the default resource group created when we clicked the "Activate sandbox" button. Additionally, the default subscription for the sandbox will be listed as "Concierge Subscription." Please note that we are not permitted to create any new resource groups under the Learn sandbox directory; we must use the default resource group starting with "learn..."

Please refer to the attached screenshot below where we can see the default resource group and subscription: VM123

Select the Resource group starting with "learn..." and follow the steps outlined to complete Task 1: Create a virtual machine. Additionally, follow the instructions for Task 2: Verify resources created, and complete the exercise as described in the module.

Ensure that we complete the exercise within one hour after activating the sandbox. The sandbox will automatically clean up our resources when we finish with this module.

If you continue to experience issues, please inform us in the comments. We are here to assist you.
