Excel 2019 Closes When I use any drop down arrow on a pivot table

I have MS Office 365 using the following version of excel: 16.0.13426.20270 - 32Bit

Suddenly today when I create a pivot table and click any drop down arrow for filtering (on the table itself or the tool panel); Regardless of data source, file name etc, Excel closes. No error presented at all. I can re-open Excel and even re-open the file but the same issue happens again as soon as i click a filter drop down arrow anywhere in the pivot table. If I reopen a file that caused it to close, it will not allow me to save said file any longer, auto-save is turned off and I must perform a "Save As". I also cannot delete the file via windows once Excel has closed without restarting the computer. If I try to delete it it tells me another application is using the file even though Excel is closed which I have verified in Task Manager.

Based on Other posts I have done the following with no resolution:

  • Unchecked various hover functionalities
  • Deleted all old versions of the workbooks
  • Used fresh, non related data and workbooks
  • Restarted computer
  • Started Excel in safe Mode
  • Started Computer in Safe Mode
  • Did a "Quick Repair" via Control Panel
  • Did a Full repair Via Control Panel

Nothing has resolved the issue.

Please help.

    @SolNeo

Has this problem occurred before? If not, did you do any changes before this issue exists?

Could you please create a pivot table on a new blank workbook basde on a simple set of data?

    1. If this issue still occures, please update Office to the latest version. Version 2011 (Build 13426.20332) is the newest one currently.
I wouldl suggest you go to File > Options > Add-ins > Manager, COM Add-ins > Go, clear the check boxes for any enabled COM add-ins, select OK to check this issue.
You may also go to Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application, check whether there is any related Error. If yes, please check the error module and share with us.
      1. If this issue does not occur with all workbooks, please make a copy of the workbooks with issues to have a check.
Any questions please let me know.
