Microsoft Authenticator App Problem - Can't delete app or upgrade

I hope someone may be able to help! I have chatted with various technical support members who were unable to advise on my current issue with the Microsoft Authenticator app.

I am an Outlook 365 user on a MacBook Air, I was having difficulties accessing documents shared with me via Outlook so went through the process of logging out and signing back in again etc. When I went to log back in I was given a number to add to the Authenticator app however when I went into the app it told me that I need to upgrade to the latest version. The problem I have is that I can't upgrade neither can I delete the app to reinstall on my iPhone. I am stuck in a loop of codes and no where to add them! Can anyone assist me?
