Moving SCCM Clients to New Site

Hi All,

I've been tasked with migrating SCCM clients to a new site, but am having difficulty devising a plan. My hope was to use Group Policy to push the new site code to our clients, but works only 25% of the time. The remaining clients fail to change sites and return the following errors:

ClientIDManagerStartup.log: RegTask: Failed to refresh MP. Error: 0x8000ffff
LocationServices.log: LsRefreshManagemetnPointEx failed with 0x8000ffff

We are trying to avoid reinstalling the CCM agent because it is part of our VPN's HIP check (and everyone is WFH these days).

Unfortunately, my Google skills are failing me on this one. I've found numerous posts with similar issues but no clear fixes.

Is there a best practice for moving existing clients to a new site without reinstalling the agent?

Thanks!

John

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Q&A forum.

    1. The migration of data is then followed by an upgrade of client software on devices to the client software version from the destination hierarchy. Typical client deployment methods include client push installation, software distribution, Group Policy, and software update-based client installation.
      1. You could use GPO method to install client, the ADM template is used to place the ConfigMgr site assignment settings in the clients registry “Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\Mobile Client
Here is a fix article for you to refer to:

      2. In addition, please examine the failed clients are not in a overlapping group. Boundaries are used to assign clients to a specific Configuration Manager site and should be unique to each site. When defining site boundaries for sites, ensure that you do not define the same boundary for more than one Configuration Manager site.
