Hi All,

I have 3 exchange servers 2016 in the cluster and the DAG is configured. On the servers, I noticed an error in the logs:

Process MSExchangeDagMgmt.exe (PID=6164). Exchange Active Directory Provider lost contact with domain controller dc01.mydc.com. Error was 0x34 (Unavailable) (Active directory response: The server is unavailable.). Exchange Active Directory Provider will attempt to reconnect with this domain controller when it is reachable.

There are no problems with the network. Mail servers are on the same subnet. There are no firewalls. But sometimes I get this error.

    Things to check:

    • Make sure you can ping the DNS server from the exchange box
    • Ensure that IPV6 is enabled on the Exchange server's network interface
    • Ensure that all the drivers are up to date.

    Sometimes this event ID can be generated by a System Mailbox as described here, in which case you can update the value of FullScanMoveJobsPollingPeriod to a higher number to avoid getting that error as frequently.

    I am re-tagging this thread since it is less related to Azure. :)

    @Kurbon Kurbonov
    Hi,
    Are there other 2070 events logged with different processes in the event viewer?
    For example, Process Microsoft.Exchange.Directory.TopologyService.exe, Process MSExchangeMailboxAssistants.exe ,etc.
    Do they have the same error code 0x34?

    The problem may possibly result from temporary network issues between exchange servers and the domain controller.
