Cannot log into Microsoft account with Azure AD user name and password

I'm having problems with logins across my 2 desktop and 1 laptop machines. I have set up these using my Microsoft account (which is an Azure AD one), but when I try to login to Store to update apps it asks for my user name and my password, but it then says "password incorrect". As the latest update to Windows 10 has now blocked access to all my apps, I need to get onto Store to download the S switch app but of course I can't log in. Can you assist please?

    @Nick Gallop
    Thank you for your detailed post!

    For the error you received when logging into your AzureAD account, you can try resetting your password from within AzureAD and logging in again. This way you can make sure that you're entering the correct password.

    Still no joy so I've had to set up a separate user account outside of AD in order to log in, it's a workaround but not ideal - is there any scope to remove the AD protocols instead?
