How to download apps and get my admin and username password

Hello,

I'm having trouble installing apps on my HP Spectre 360 running Windows 10. It prompts me for an admin password, but the dialog box doesn’t even show a place to input the username or password. I set up the laptop myself, but none of the passwords or accounts I have seem to work. This has been incredibly frustrating, and I would appreciate any guidance on how to resolve this issue.

Is this Windows 10 Home?

Can you share a screenshot of the UX you're talking about?

Do you have UAC enabled and are you sure you're logged into an account with Admin privileges? Disabling UAC and restarting will allow your admin account to install without any additional prompts. If you have UAC enabled then you should simply get a consent dialog asking for permission and then the program will run.

Thank you so much for your response!

I just tried disabling UAC but it still showed me the same thing, cant download apps. Yes I believe i'm logged into the account with admin privileges, I see the account name info when I check User Accounts. Also whenever I try to make changes to the UAC it asks for finger prints and then shows what's in the screenshot.

What's a consent dialog please?

I don't see any images attached to your post. Please add them so we can see what is going on. It is still unclear what message you're getting and when.

This may not be an admin privileges issue. To clarify you're having an issue installing apps from the Microsoft Store? Can you install apps that aren't from the store?

If this is a store only issue then look at your profile in the upper right corner of the Store app. Ensure it is you. Also you need to ensure that the machine has been authorized for this using the Manage accounts and devices. IIRC you are limited to 5 devices. You may need to remove older devices before you can install Store apps on a newer one.

The consent dialog is the UX that Windows pops up when you try to do something that requires admin privileges. You mentioned you get a fingerprint prompt when trying to turn off UAC - that is the consent prompt. It looks like you have biometrics enabled for login.

Finally note that if this machine is a work or school machine then your admin may have locked down the machine. It is part of the network policies that can be enforced.

Administrators group will have the right to do it :

You can type Win+R and enter lusrmgr.msc to open local user and group

Click users and find your account>>>double click>>>>click Member Of

Check is your account is the member of Administrators group.
